Study in Canada from India: Apply Direct, Skip the Agent Fees
USCA Academy is a private international high school in Mississauga, Ontario, 1.2 km from the University of Toronto Mississauga. Indian families apply directly with our admissions team, get a study permit, and move onto the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), with a plan for how CBSE, ICSE, or state board marks convert into Canadian credits.
Quick answer: how does a student from India study in Canada?
A student from India needs a Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), a study permit application through IRCC, and proof of funds of at least CAD 22,895 for one year of living costs plus first-year tuition. USCA Academy is a licensed DLI and Ontario Ministry inspected private school (BSID #881623). Families work with our admissions team directly rather than a third-party consultant, and we assess CBSE, ICSE, or state board transcripts for Ontario credit equivalency before the student ever leaves India.
Why More Indian Families Are Skipping Agents for Direct OSSD Admission
India sends more students abroad than any other country, and that demand has built a large industry of education consultants around it. Some are excellent. Many are not, and every year families report paying commission-driven agents who steered them toward whichever school paid the highest referral fee, not the best fit for their child. USCA Academy’s admissions process skips that layer. Parents talk to our staff, get a written answer on eligibility, and see exactly what is included in tuition before they commit to anything.
Students coming from CBSE, ICSE, or a state board curriculum are usually strong academically, particularly in math and science, but the exam-heavy structure of Indian secondary school looks very different from Ontario’s credit system, where marks build across four years of coursework, assignments, and continuous assessment rather than one board exam. Our team reviews each transcript and places students into the right grade level with a clear credit-transfer plan, not a guess.
Direct admissions, no middleman
Apply, ask questions, and get decisions straight from the school. No commission-based agent deciding which options you get to see.
Credit transfer clarity
CBSE, ICSE, and state board transcripts are assessed against Ontario course codes before arrival, so families know the exact grade placement in advance.
A direct flight home
Delhi to Toronto runs as a daily nonstop flight on Air Canada and Air India, roughly 16 hours, so visits home for Diwali or summer break don’t require a layover.

Study Permit Basics for Students Coming From India (2026)
Indian citizens need a visitor visa or, in some cases, an eTA to travel to Canada, and separately, a study permit to enroll in a program longer than six months. The two are not the same document, and mixing them up is one of the most common mistakes we see families make on their own.
What you need
- Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (USCA Academy is a licensed DLI)
- A Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), required for most study permit applicants since the introduction of Canada's international student cap
- Proof of funds of at least CAD 22,895 for one year of living costs outside Quebec, on top of first-year tuition and return travel
- Passport, photos, and biometrics, given at a Visa Application Centre in India
Good to know
- The Student Direct Stream fast-track program has been discontinued; all applicants, including those from India, now go through the regular study permit process
- A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) is a common way to show proof of funds; our team walks families through eligible providers and current thresholds
- IELTS is not always mandatory for high school admission; our team confirms current English requirements for your specific grade
- For the full GIC walkthrough, including which banks are accepted and how much to deposit, see our GIC requirement guide for minor applicants.
